Government hands over Samjhauta blast case to NIAJul-29-2010-07:01:05

As investigators grope in the dark for clues, the government has decided to hand over the probe into the 2007 Samjhauta Express blast case to the National Investigation Agency.

"Samjhauta blast case has been handed over to the NIA," Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs Utthan Kumar Bansal told reporters on the sidelines of a function.

Sixty-eight people were killed when bombs were set off in two coaches of cross-country Samjhauta Express around midnight on February 18, 2007 at Diwana near Panipat, 80 kilometres north of Delhi.

Security agencies probing the Samjhauta Express blast case have reportedly gathered evidence that points to a strong finger of suspicion at a Hindu right wing extremist organisation. The Samjhauta Express train service connects Delhi with Lahore. It runs twice a week.
